The Hope Valley has plenty in store for adults and children alike.

Visit one of Castleton’s show caves to see the region’s unique, world-famous Blue John stone – still mined and crafted into jewellery and fine chalices to this day!  Browse the antiques shops in Bradwell, Bamford and Tideswell.

Castleton visitor centre has fascinating displays on local history with many historic objects to see.  There’s a great little shop too.  The centre hosts exhibitions of work by local artists and craftspeople.  Castleton village celebrates Garland Day every year on Oak Apple Day, 29 May.  Some claim the custom goes back to Charles II, others that it’s a much older fertility rite.  Whichever is true, you’ll enjoy seeing the large flower garland paraded around the village on horseback accompanied by musicians and dancers.  Afterwards why not have lunch or a cuppa in one of the village’s many tearooms, pubs and restaurants?

Tour the area to visit local museums in Eyam and Castleton and the antiques collection on show in Eyam Hall. And soak up the dramatic limestone scenery on the way.
