The hugely successful medical drama Peak Practice (Carlton TV) ran to 12 series and is so popular it still features weekly on satellite channels.  Bereft fans to this day sign petitions for new series.  It is set in the fictional town of Cardale, and many locations in and around the Peak District were used for filming.

Longnor replaced Crich and Fritchley as the location of Cardale in the twelfth series.  Look out for locations you recognize - here are some clues…. The Crewe and Harpur Arms, named for an old village family, stars as the Cardale Tearooms.  It was built in the 1700s as the inn on the family estate.  The Horseshoe Inn is Peak Practice’s Black Swan pub.

Erica jilted Andrew at Edensor church though her house was in Iridgeway.  Hartington starred as the location of David’s funeral and Will Preston’s house.  The Roaches also took a dramatic role in a medical emergency.

Since Peak Practice ended, Amanda Burton’s career has moved on from strength to strength.  Likewise, Sarah Parish and Simon Shepherd. And fans of Casualty, The Bill, Holby City, Coronation Street will recognize many familiar cast faces.

Access and orientation

Longnor is south of Buxton. Well-equipped for visitors, with accommodation, teashops, pubs, art gallery, antiques and crafts, it makes a good jumping off point for walks around the Dove and Manifold valleys.  Hartington is to the south of Longnor and the Roaches are to the southwest.  Iridgeway is near Ashbourne and Edensor is within the Chatsworth estate.
